Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 6-8oz block of Old Style Cheddar (shredded)

  • 2 tbsp Frank’s hot sauce

  • 1/4 tsp mustard powder

  • 1/8 tsp cayenne

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

  • Salt/pepper to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter until frothy but not browned. Add flour and whisk constantly until raw flour flavor is cooked out (1-2min). While stirring constantly, add milk slowly to prevent lumps.

Step 2

Add mustard powder, cayenne and Frank’s and keep whisking until slightly thickened. Add shredded Old Style Cheddar, a small handful at a time and whisk until smooth before adding more.

Step 3

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serve hot.

Helpful Hints:

If it’s too thick, add a little milk (1 tbsp at a time until you have desired consistency). If too thin, allow to cool slightly before serving or simply add more cheese!
